Cruise ship returned to Hamburg due to technical problems

Tue Mar 04 10:49:53 CET 2025 Timsen

The 'MSC Preziosa' had to return to the port of Hamburg on the morning of March 3, 2025, due to technical problems. After the regular call at the port of Hamburg on March 2, the cruise ship had set off for Rotterdam as planned at around 8 p.m. On March 3 at around 2 a.m. the ship had to turn around because the technical problems, which were affecting the ship's navigation, apparently did not allow it to continue the journey safely. It is already clear that the 'MSC Preziosa' will not be able to keep to its original sailing plan for this week. At around 11 a.m. it was back at the Cruise Center Steinwerder in Hamburg. At least the call in Rotterdam planned for March 4, has to be cancelled. The technical problems on board will probably have to be resolved before the 'MSC Preziosa' can continue the journey. The guest changes planned for Feb 4 in Rotterdam must be rescheduled. There was currently no information about the extent of the problems with the ship's navigation. The original itinerary of the 'MSC Preziosa' was from March 2 to 9 with calls at Rotterdam, Zeebrugge, Le Havre and Southampton before returning to Hamburg. The ship finally left Hamburg-Steinwerder on March 3 at 9 p.m., headed to Zeebrugge with an ETA as of March 5.

Passenger jumped over board

Tue Jan 02 13:30:53 CET 2024 Timsen

During a cruise to Rio de Janeiro on Dec 31, 2023, a man intentionally jumped overboard the 'MSC Preziosa' at around midnight. The ship’s crew initiated standard emergency procedures, launching two rescue crafts and alerting the Brazilian Coast Guard. A thorough search was conducted on board and it was confirmed that the guest intentionally jumped into the sea. Despite extensive search efforts, the passenger was not found. In light of the man overboard, the ship’s management decided to cancel a scheduled performance by Alexandre Pires, a well-known musician. This decision was made out of respect for the missing passenger and the ongoing search efforts. The ship berthed in Rio de Janeiro at 10.20 p.m. UTC.

Cruise ship rescued six fishermen

Tue Nov 21 11:32:08 CET 2023 Timsen

The "MSC Preziosa" carried out a rescue operation off the Brazilian coast on Nov 20, 2023. A fishing boat with seven people on board got into distress in the waters near Ilha Grande off Rio de Janeiro due to a storm and sank. The cruise ship changed course to head to the scene of the accident after an emergency call. Six of the seven shipwrecked people were rescued from the Atlantic waters. One fisherman died in the accident. The port authority had previously carried out a search for the missing people together with the Brazilian Navy. Those rescued received medical care on board the cruise ship and were then brought ashore in Vila do Abraão on Ilha Grande. There they received further care in a hospital, while the cruise ship continued its voyage to the port of Santos near São Paulo.
