Ferry in Genova seized
Seven Moroccan sailors who have not received salaries for months and were hundreds of miles away from home remained stranded aboard the "Le Rif" moored in the ship repair area of Genova. The ship's galley is empty, and the sailors have no money to buy food. They can not go ashore because the minimum number of crewmen who must remain on board the ship, for security reasons, is seven men. The case is followed by the International Federation of Transport Workers ITF and by the lawyer Stefano Staderini. The court of Genova has seized the ferry and asked for an immediate intervention by the shipping company based in Tangier, the Detroit World Logistics Maritime Sa.
Le Rif abandoned in Naples?
LE RIF, ex- IMTC, was acquired by a new Moroccan operator – Detroit World Logistic Maritime (DWLM) – in 2016 with a view to upgrading her and putting her into service on the Algeciras-Tangier Med route. She initially went into dry-dock in Malaga, but after various disputes over the work to be done, and the cost, the vessel was towed to Naples.
