Morgana beached in Terschelling

Mon Sep 17 09:47:54 CEST 2012 Timsen

The situation aboard the "Morgana" could be stabilized on Sep 15 after the lifeboat "Arie Visser" had taken 28 people off. As a precaution, the captain of the tall ship Morgana had run it onto a sandbank to prevent the ship continuing to sink. Salvors of Noordgat started pumping out the "Morgana" and finally were able to cope the flooding. It was decided to pull the "Morgana" to Terschelling where the ship was beached again so the leak may be patched. Water ingress off Terschelling

Sat Sep 15 22:23:50 CEST 2012 Timsen

The "Morgana" with 28 passengers and a crew of 2 on board suffered water ingress on Sep 15, 2012, at 1.10 p.m. 30 kilometres south of Terschelling. Two lifeboats of the KNRM from Terschelling and one from Vlieland took the passengers off and brought them to Terschelling. The crew remained on board to assist in the dewatering works. The salvage company Noordgat procceded with two vessels and towed the ship to shallow waters to keep it from sinking. It was moored at West-Terschelling.
