Mooring line jammed propeller

Mon Nov 25 18:17:58 CET 2024 Timsen

A mooring line jammed the propeller of the Dutch flagged ferry 'Monnik', so that two scheduled sailings between Ameland and Holwerd had to be cancelled on the morning of Nov 25. Affected were departure from Ameland at 09:45 a.m., which was postponed to 2:45 p.m.From Holwerd, the ferry now departed at 4:00 ipm. nstead of 11:00. a.m. The operator Wagenborg Passenger Services has informed all affected passengers and rebooked them to alternative departures.

Grounding off Dutch coast

Thu Jan 12 22:02:59 CET 2012 Timsen

The "Monnik" with 60 passengers on board ran aground between Lauwersoog and Schiermonnikoog off the Dutch coast on Jan 12, 2012, at 4 p.m. Attempts by the KNRM-lifeboats "Koning Willem 1" from Schiermonnikoog and "Annie Jacoba Visser" from Lauwersoog to pull off the ship were abandoned around 5 p.m., and it was decided to wait for the rising tide instead. At 6.30 p.m., earlier than expected, the ship refloated. At 6.50 p.m. it moored at Schiermonnikoog. The grounding was thought to have been caused by the stormy winds which changed the water depths. Passengers which had to go back to Schiermonnikoog were carried aboard the smaller ferry "Esonborg" from Lauwersoog.
