Disabled ship towed to Chios

Mon Jun 02 11:33:01 CEST 2025 Timsen

On May 30, 2025, at noon, the Port Authority of Chios was informed by the JJRCC of the Greek Coast Guard, that the 'Mohsen' had suffered a mechanical failure while sailing three nautical miles northeast of Psara, en route from Dikili to Durres with 13 crew members on board. The local emergency plan was immediately activated and a patrol boat of the Coast Guard, a lifeboat and the 'Michalis S' of the Greek Navy were dispatched to the area. The 'Mohsen' was initially towed by another ship and then the tow was taken over by the “Michalis S”, escorted by the lifeboat. The ship was safely moored at the anchorage of the port of Chios in pos. 38° 23' N 026° 09' E, where it remained stationary as of June 2. The Central Port Authority of Chios banned the ship from sailing until the damage was repaired and a certificate of class maintenance was presented by the monitoring classification society. Administrative sanctions were imposed, because the Master of the ship did not inform the Port Authority about the mechanical damage, as he was required to do.
