Medevac off Durban

Mon Sep 26 13:26:33 CEST 2016 Timsen

On Sep 23, 2016, at 3:30 p.m. the Maritime Rescue Co Ordination Centre (MRCC) put the NSRI Air Sea Rescue team on standby to medevac a 59 year Filipino man from the "Skelt". The ship’s chief cook was treated for a myocardial infarction by the ship’s crew with advice from a local doctor. It was decided to wait for the "Skelt" to get closer to Durban before sending a rescue team to casualty evacuate him. On Sep 25 at 04.50 a.m. a 15 Squadron Oryx took off and landed on the ship approximately 20 nautical miles off Durban at 5 a.m. The man was carried onto the helicopter and flown to Saint Augustans hospital, landing at 05.20 a.m. He has been transferred to Entabeni Private hospital in a stable condition.
