Crane towed by Merkuriy sank, three missing

The Russian floating crane "ASPTR-1", 1000 dwt (built 1962), of the State Agency Rosmorrechflot, which was under tow of the "Merkuriy" and the "Derzkiy", sank in the Black Sea about 1,5 miles off Livadiya village, Yalta, in the early morning of Oct 12, 2016. The convoy was underway from Gurzuf to Sevastopol, when the crane suffered water ingress in adverse weather. It sank at 3 a.m., five crew members were rescued by the "Derzkiy", three crew members went missing. An SAR operation was launched, but until the afternoon no one was found.
