Collision in the English Channel

Thu Jul 16 09:59:37 CEST 2015 Timsen

The bulkcarrier "Cape Canada" was in collision with the "Mei Hua Hai" in English Channel 30 nautical miles off Lizard on July 15, 2015, around 3 p.m. Both ships were following the same southward course, but due to a mistake of the duty officer the ships contacted in the fairway of the English Channel. Both ships suffered some damages of the hull and remained drifting until an inspection by the UK Coast Guard was carried out. After this was done, it was estimated that the ships had remained seaworthy. They were released to resume their respective voyages. The "Cape Canada" was en route from Dunkerque to Sept-Ilies, and the "Mei Hua Hai" was en route from Hamburg to Baltimore.
