Bulkcarrier in hit and run accident

Mon Jul 09 13:32:25 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "Mayuree Naree" hit the fishing boat "Divnine" off the Kochi coast early on July 8, 2018, and sailed away in a hit and run case. The coastal police have begun an inquiry to trace the vessel after the incident about 20 nautical miles south-east of Munambam harbour which took place around 12.30 a.m. when the fishing boat, owned by Antoniyar Picha of Thiruvananthapuram, was hit by the vessel. Two fishermen, aged, 50 and 56, of Pozhiyur in Thiruvananthapuram, who were part of the five-member crew, sustained injuries. The fishermen could not see the ship heading towards them due to the heavy rain and wind at that time. All of a sudden, the other ship emerged out of the waves from behind and hit the boat, throwing two people into the sea. On an alert raised by the crew, an Indian Coast Guard vessel rushed to the scene and rescued the fishermen. The boat, which was damaged due to the impact of the collision, returned safely to Vypin. The "Mayuree Naree" was on its way from Gujarat to Paradip port in Odisha from Gujarat, ETA July 12.
