A crew member of the 'Matson Kodiak' fell ill on Jan 30, 2021, while the ship was on its way from Tacoma to Anchorage in Alaska. A MH-65 Dolphin helicopter of the US Coast Guard happened to be nearby and hoisted the 65-year-old woman on board. Coast Guard Medevacs Man from Gulf of Alaska Container Ship

Sun Jul 20 12:41:20 CEST 2014 arnekiel

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter medevaced a crewman from a container ship in the Gulf of Alaska about 200 miles east of Kodiak Saturday afternoon. According to Coast Guard spokesperson Petty Officer 2 nd Class Grant DeVuyst, watchstanders received a report at about noon Saturday (July 19) that the 39-year-old man was suffering from exposure to chemicals in cleaning supplies aboard the 700-foot Horizon Kodiak. An MH-60 Jayhawk and HC-130 Hercules search plane were both launched to the scene, taking about an hour to reach the ship. The crewman was hoisted in 20-knot winds, but DeVuyst says 6-foot seas didn’t seriously affect the ship. The man was flown back to Kodiak for emergency medical treatment.
