Salvage company contracted

Salvage of the "Masccio" was due to begin on June 20. The Ferry was semi sunk in the port of Scari. The Libertylines have contract a salvage company for the recovery of the vessel. Technicians have already taken steps drain the remaining fuel to avoid any spill.

Hydrofoil sank stuck under pier

The “Masaccio” allided with a pier while trying to dock in Stromboli on June 16, 2016, around 4.30 p.m. and started to sink in stormy seas. On board were 117 passengers and a crew of six. All passengers and the crew except the captain and the chief, who remained on board, were saved by forces of the Coastguard, police and port authority. They jumped over board into liferafts which were pulled onto the nearby beach. Also a Coast Guard helicopter took off from Catania. The ferry got stuck under the concrete pier with the bow and partially submerged. The ship was coming from Milazzo and headed to Lipari at the time of the accident.
