Tanker rescued boat people
On April 18 at around 7:27 p.m., the 'Salvamar Enif' rescued five people from a toy boat in the Strait of Gibraltar. They were located 20 nautical miles from Trafalgar after maritime controllers conducted a sweep of vessels in the area, and one of them reported the boat's position after being sighted. At around 8:00 p.m., the 'Salvamar Denébola' rescued two more people 19 nautical miles from Punta Europa. The SAR boat, the SAR helicopter Helimer 220, and vessels in the area participated in the search for the inflatable kayak they were in. One of them, the 'Maran Artemis', en route from Fos sur Mer to Algeciras, reported the sighting, giving its position and indicating that the boat had capsized and that the two occuptants were on board. They were dropped off in Algeciras.
