Medevac off Galveston

Thu Aug 29 09:20:38 CEST 2024 Timsen

The US Coast Guard medevaced a 20-year-old woman from the 'Maersk Ohio' 50 nautical miles off Galveston, Texas, on Aug 27, 2024. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received the medevac request at approximately 5 p.m. from the master of the vessel, that the Merchant Marine cadet had sustained an injury to her arm. The watchstanders transferred the case to the Coast Guard District 8 command center due to it being in the New Orleans area of responsibility. The district 8 watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medevac. An already-airborne Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter was diverted to conduct the medevac. The helicopter hoisted the patient and transported her to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in stable condition.
