Lost barge refloated near Bari

Tue Feb 25 18:27:02 CET 2020 Timsen

The deck barge 'AMT Mariner', 4250 gt (IMO: 8766284), which broke lose from the 'Macistone' on Feb 5 and grounded five nautical miles South of Bari near San Giorgio beach in position 41 05 53.0N, 016 57 41.5E, has been salvaged on Feb 24. Authorities have successfully refloated the barge which was towed and subsequently berthed in Bari at Berth No.30.

Tug lost barge

Thu Feb 06 12:00:36 CET 2020 Timsen

On Feb 5, 2020, the 'Macistone' lost the seagoing deck barge 'AMT Mariner' which was being towed from Augusta, where she had sailed on Jan 30, 2020, enroute to Ravenna after its tow chains broke because of stormy winds and high swells. The tug with the barge had sheltered from the strong wind off the port of Manfredonia (Foggia) but in the afternoon, probably due to the prohibitive marine weather conditions, the crew decided to leave again. They failed to resume the route due northern winds and were pushed southwards and, being unable to enter the port of Bari due to weather conditions, were diverted to Brindisi. Underway, the pontoon of the Rosetti Marina of Ravenna detached from the tug and ended up running aground south of Bari between the Sant'Anna promenade and San Giorgio south of Puglia city. The 'Macistone' with its crew of seven meanwhile sought refuge in Bari harbour. Local authorities have planned the removal of the deck cargo on the barge of the 'AMT Mariner' by Feb 22.
