Ferry under tow to breakers in Aliaga

On Feb 14, 2025, the 'Logudoro' was taken in tow in the port of Messina by tugs en route to be broken up in Aliaga, according to the standards imposed by EU regulation no. 1257/2013. The ship has been decommissioned in 2016 and has remained in the port of Messina since. The 'Logudoro' was initially used on passenger routes to Sardinia until its conversion, in 2000, into a unit for freight transport, including rail. Since 2012, the ferry has been in service between Sicily and Calabria, until the seizure ordered against it in 2016 at the end of a legal case that had seen RFI and some seafarers opposed who, after some years of precarious employment, had been recognized the right to a permanent contract and the satisfaction of the related economic benefits, from which had descended credits for over 300000 euros. Since that year, the vessel has remained sidelined in the port of Messina.
