Work ship grounded in Millport Bay

The UK Coastguard and RNLI were called out after a cargo ship ran aground in Millport Bay, Great Cumbrae, on Aug 21, 2024,aftter receiving a distress call at approximately 12.45 p.m. The ship had run aground after losing an anchor and turning sideways to the wind. The Leslie Anne has the a crane on board which has been involved in the flood prevention works on the island. The RNLI's all-weather lifeboat from Troon was also sent to assist. The high tide was at around 2.30 p.m., with worsening wind conditions forecast. The crew was accounted for and safe.
