Water ingress in engine room

Sun Mar 25 17:01:02 CEST 2018 Timsen

On March 25, 2018, at 2.10 p.m. the skipper of the "Aby/Lou“, 909 ts (EU-No.: 04030930), remarked a water ingress in the engine room during a regular control. The ship was enroute from Fürstenwalde to Bremerhaven with a cargo of 671 tons corn on the Mittelland Canal near the lock in Anderten. It berthed in Sehnde close to the Bolzumer Bridge. The water police, canal authority and the fire brigades from Sehnde and Bolzum as well as divers were mobilized to the scene. The personnel of the lock jointly with the crew had already started to drain the water from the engine room. With additional submersible pumps the water ingress could be controlled, but no leak was found. An oil boom was laid out around the vessel as a precaution. About 2,5 hours later the 37 forces of the fire brigades could be stood down. The minimal remaining water ingress could be coped with the ship's own pumps. On March 26 a professional diver was to survey the hull for damages and then a decision to be found regarding further measures.
