11 cases of COVID-19 in Syracuse

Fri Oct 30 18:57:35 CET 2020 Timsen

11 people have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on the "Jacques-Cartier" which has blocked by the Italian authorities in Syracuse since Oct 26, 2020. At midday it turned out that there were two cases of Covid19 among the crew. In the evening at dinner, a couple experienced the first symptoms and presented to the doctor. Around 60 passengers and 93 crew members have been stranded on board. Of the positive tested, three were passengers and eight crew meembers. The epassengers were denied to disembark in Syracuse. The Italian authorities have given the green light for the departure of the vessel and were awaiting a final decision from the prefect of the PACA region. The spa has been closed and interactions between crew and passengers were now reduced to a minimum. Passengers accused the Compagnie du Ponant, owned by Artémis, the holding company of the family of billionaire François-Henri Pinault, of not having sufficiently controlled its staff.
