Collision off Ostend

Thu Jan 11 18:21:19 CET 2018 Timsen

On Jan 11, 2018, at 12.45 p.m. the "Elke W", enroute from Southampton, where she had sailed on Jan 10, to Antwerp was in collision with the Belgian pilot vessel "Wandelaar Pilot" (IMO: 9569011), about 11 miles off the coast of Ostend in the Northsea. The accident happened when the "Wandelaar Pilot" made a maneuver to drop off a pilot. There were six crew members on board the "Elke W" who remained unharmed, just like the "Wandelaar Pilot"'s crew. Both ships suffered damage above the waterline. After an inspecton on open sea both ships headed to port. The "Wandelaar Pilot" was to be surveyed in Ostend and berthed at the Wandelaar Quay at 4 p.m., while the "Elke W" headed to Antwerp where she berthed in dock 7 at 11.15 p.m. for a thorough survey. The "Elke W" was under repair at Hans Weert from Jan 17 to Feb 21.

Elke W nearly ran onto rocks

Fri Sep 08 10:00:55 CEST 2017 Timsen

On Sep 2, 2017, at 5 a.m. LT the "Elke W", while transiting the Vessels Traffic Separation Zone in the approach of the Gulf of Vyborg, didn’t change course when passing the light buoy No.1., heading towards the Halli Rock islet. The Marine Traffic Control operator called the vessel on VHF, the bridge watch answered non-stop calls in 10 minutes. Finally the ship changed course and returned to safe waters four minutes before running onto the rock. It was underway from Sczcezin, wher it had sailed on Sep 8, to La Coruna, ETA Sep 14.
