Freighter troubled due to lack of provisions and poor state

Wed Dec 18 10:14:33 CET 2024 Timsen

On Dec 16, 2024, the 'Lady Fortune' sent a distress signal in the Kerch Strait. The 13 crew members were running out of water and food supplies, and so they decided to contact the Russian seafarers' union. 12 crew members coming from Azerbaijan and one from Turkey. The ship, which belongs to a Turkish ship owner, had left Kerch and was supposed to head to Turkey. However, at the moment this has proven impossible. It was also noted that the sailors' situation is aggravated by the poor technical equipment of the vessel, difficult weather conditions, as well as the fact that the employer has not paid the salaries for six months. The crew was unable to contact the International Seafarers' Union, so they contacted the RPSM. A decision to enter the port was requested. The ship was anchored in pos. 45° 07' N 037° 01' E.
