Fishing vessel detained in Nakhodka

Tue Dec 10 12:33:10 CET 2019 Timsen

The 'Krymskiy' was boarded by Russian border patrol, near Primorskiy Krai, in the Sea of Japan, on Dec 2, 2019. The vessel had been fishing for five days in the Russian Economic Zone off Primorskiy Krai and during this time period the crew had been fishing using banned bottom fishing crab traps, which were prohibited in the area. On board the vessel, border guards found more than 11.100 live Opilio snow crabs, with a total weight of over 13 tons. Subsequently, the border guards released the crabs back into their natural habitat, thereby preventing damage to the state of 53 million rubles. The 'Krymskiy' was detained and escorted to the port of Nakhodka, where trial proceedings were conducted.
