KORAKI
The crew of the "Koraki" has abandoned ship in the Hauraki Gulf after fire ripped through the engine room. Five men onboard the "Koraki" bailed into life rafts at 3.30 in the morning of June 15, 2010. They have been picked up by a Coastguard vessel. The tug was 10 nautical miles off Mangawhai towing an empty barge. Before leaving crew closed all the hatches to the engine room, in the hope of stifling the blaze. The Navy's Inshore Patrol Vessel Rotoiti is en route. It has specialist fire fighting and breathing gear on board
