Lifeboat towed disabled shrimper to port

Thu Jun 26 09:25:40 CEST 2014 Timsen

On June 24 both KNRM boats of the station Ameland, the "Maria Hofker" and the "Anna Margaretha", assisted the Dutch f/v "Jacob Senior - OL 5", 36 gt (IMO: 8432015; CS: PGUJ), which had suffered steering problems near the beach of Buren caused by a leak in a hydraulic line. The Dutch Coastguard called the lifeboats, and the "Maria Hofker", which was launched from the beach, was first to be on the scene. The shrimper meanwhile had dropped anchor to avoid running aground. As the situation was estimated as stable, tit was decided to wait for the arrival of the larger lifeboat "Anna Margaretha" which had .to sail around Ameland to reach the site, which took half an hour. Once on scene, the "Maria Hofker" stablished a towing connection between the "Anna Margaretha" and the "Jacob Senior" which was towed to the harbor of Lauwersoog. When entering Zoutkamperlaag, the lifeboat from Schiermonnikoog, the "Koning Willem 1" took over and helped to safely berth the shrimper in port.
