Engine room fire in Wajok Hilir Village

The KM 'Hasil Bahari 7' caught fire on July 31, 2024, at around 11.10 a.m. WIB while docked at the PT Dok Bina Vista pier in Wajok Hilir Village, Jongkat District, Mempawah Regency. The fire was caused by repairs of an expansion pipe leak in the engine room by the ship's crew. The crew cut the pipe using a cutting lamp until sparks were emitted, which then hit oil spilled on the floor of the engine room. As a result, the sparks ignited. Thick smoke appeared from inside the engine room,, and the crew rushed to extinguish the fire so thatit would not spread further, using water and fire extinguishers. However, the smoke became thicker until the crew asked for help from the local fire department. Six fire trucks from the BPAJ Jongkat, Jungkat Raya Fire Department and Siantan Fire Department arrived at the scene of the fire. The firefighters were able to immediately put out the fire.
