Sailings cancelled due to staffing issues

The ongoing staffing issues with BC Ferries have cancelled sailings between Mill Bay and Brentwood Bay due to crew availability on the 'Klitsa' on July 23, 2022. BC Ferries issued the service notice in the afternoon of July 22, however, many commuters are arriving at the terminal unaware of the cancellations. The company said a specific number of crew members are needed aboard the vessel to ensure passenger safety and comply with Transport Canada regulations. The same day, BC Ferries fired CEO Mark Collins “effective immediately” and has named Jill Sharland as an interim CEO while the company searches for a replacement. The announcement, made by the recently appointed BC Ferry Service Board chair Joy MacPhail, comes amid ongoing cancellations and delays in ferry system.

Ferry saved two from sinking bayliner

On May 20, 2013, the "Klitsa" helped to rescue two people and a dog from a sinking boat in Saanich Inlet near Senanus Island. The 16-foot Bayliner called for help about 2 p.m. The ferry which runs between Brentwood Bay and Mill Bay, was nearby, The "Klitsa" launched its rescue boat because the ship was going down. Trained marine rescue staff on the Zodiac-style rescue boat helped transport the couple and their dog back to the ferry. The couple did not require medical attention. Rescuers did not know why the boat sank.
