Private company to salvage sunken ship

A private company will continue the salvage process of the KD 'Pendekar'. The Navy will handle the appointment of the company. The Navy divers conduced early work for the salvage process, which included identifying, investigating and ensure that tools and sensitive information on the vessel do not go missing. Regarding the incident on Aug 28 where a Navy diver died, a post-mortem on the vessel's wrecking was expected to be completed in about a month.

Private company to salvage sunken ship

The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) has appointed a private company to conduct the salvage operation of the Kapal Diraja (KD) 'Pendekar' that sank off Tanjung Penyusup, in Kota Tinggi. hTe postmortem has yet to be completed and is expected to take a month, The Navy has conducted initial work, including identifying and ensuring that equipment on the ship was in good condition but would leave the refloating and salvage work to the private company.

Diver died while working at wreck

A Malaysian mine clearance diver died on Aug 28) while carrying out salvage works on the KD 'Pendekar'. The Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) confirmed the death of Leading Seaman I Arman San Hermansa off the coast of Johor, two nautical miles southeast of Tanjung Penyusop in Kota Tinggi. He was deployed to provide a cordon around the sunken fast attack craft to ensure the security of sensitive equipment. The 28-year-old diver was believed to have drowned while installing floats at the site. He was executing the underwater tasks with another diver, who later realised Arman San had gone missing upon surfacing. Search efforts were launched immediately. Arman San was found at 1 p.m. and pronounced dead. His body was taken to Sultan Ismail Hospital for autopsy. A special board of inquiry has been formed to determine the cause of the incident,three days after the ship sank on Aug 25 after having hit an unknown underwater object, causing a leak that resulted in severe flooding.
