Main traffic closed after ship grounding
In the afternoon of Oct 14, 2011, the "Odeon" ran aground on the Main at Thüngersheim. While the damage remained limited, the traffic on the river had to be stopped for several hours. The hydraulic rudder of the ship had broken down while passing another ship causing it to run aground. The captain was, however, able to stabilize with the help of the bow thruster. The casualty was taken alongside by another ship and towed to Erlabrunn lock for repairs. The river bottom was controlled for possible obstructions and the river re-opened for traffic at 1 a.m. on Oct 15. The damage to the vessel was expected to amount to around € 5000.
