Sea Shepherd ship damaged by illegal longliners

Fri Jun 30 11:39:49 CEST 2017 Timsen

The Sea Shepherd vessel "John Paul Dejoria" has been damaged on June 28, 2017, during an aggressive altercation off the coast of Panama. SHe was surrounded by five boats they were monitoring for illegal long-line fishing. Objects were then hurled at the activists, before one of the vessel rams the Sea Shepherd ship. The Sea Shepherd crew tried to contact a nearby Panamanian Aero naval vessel by radio for assistance but were unable to reach it. The crew stood its ground and refused to be intimidated, and reported the incident and boats to Coiba park rangers. The entire incident lasted about 60 to 90 minutes and ended when the John Paul DeJoria departed the area to avoid the situation escalating. The "John Paul DeJoria" suffered minor damage.
