Allision on the Thames

Sun Dec 16 16:28:42 CET 2018 Timsen

The "Jewel of London", 267 gt, with five crew members on board allided with the Metropolitan Police Marine Police Pier Wapping, in position 51 30 09.0 N, 000 03 33.0 W, on Dec 13, 2018, at 11 p.m. on the River Thames. It hit the Police workshop pontoon and then a moored Marine Police boat with the crew still on board. A London Authority (LA) duty launch crew and a Marine Police boat attended the scene. The captain of the vessel suggested there was part of the console in the wheelhouse that had become detached, therefore distracting him from navigating. The cptain was breathalyzed by the Marine Police unit and it was a negative result. Investigations by the Port of London Authority (PLA) and Police on scene suggested there was no mechanical defect. At 1.30 a.m. the response was terminated, and the vessel returned to its moorings at Milbank.
