Oscar Wilde to become James Joyce

Mon Jun 10 08:55:56 CEST 2024 Timsen

The name of 'James Joyce' is to be given to the 'Oscar Wilde', while Irish Ferries recently acquired the 'Spirit of Britain', formerly on P&O’s Dover-Calais link, to take on the same name after the famous Dublin born writer. The 'James Joyce' will continue operating out of Dublin to Wales and France, while in its new guise as 'Oscar Wilde', the ferry will return to the Strait of Dover, competing with its previous owner and DFDS.

Allision in Tallinn

Fri Aug 26 11:50:42 CEST 2016 Timsen

The "Star" allided with a telescopic passageway at the terminal in Tallinn in the morning of Aug 25, 2016, at 9.30 a.m. While the vessel suffered slight damages like scratches, the passageway was pushed out of its rails and could no longer be used. Therefore passengers bound from Tallinn to Helsinki at 10.30 a.m. were forced to use the second passenger bridge of the port. The ship berthed at the Jätkäsaari Quay of the Finnish port at 11.40 a.m. Finnish report with photos: http://www.mtv.fi/uutiset/kotimaa/artikkeli/tallink-star-tormasi-matkustajasiltaan-rysahdys-saikaytti-laivaa-odottavat/6043332

One driver injured, several trucks damaged by ramp breakdown

Fri Dec 13 10:16:05 CET 2013 Timsen

On Dec 13 the "Star" remained berthed at the Jätkäsaari Quay in Helsinki after the raising mechanism of the ramp connecting the two car decks broke and caused one side to the ramp to fall down on the cars and trucks underneath. One driver was injured and taken to hospital by an ambulance, but none of the 730 passengers was seriously injured in the accident which seems to have been caused by a failure of the ramp hydraulics. At least four trucks were damaged. On Dec 13 morning all passengers bound for Estonia had been booked onto the "Superstar", the cars were being brought by ferry as soon as possible during the day. The "Star" was waiting for an inspection and subsequent authorization to quit by the relevant authorities. The Maritime Safety Agency launched an investigation of the matter.
