Offshore vessel saved crew of capsized fishing vessel

Mon Nov 23 21:06:53 CET 2015 Timsen

Two fishermen from Greetsiel were saved by the crew of the "MCS Maestro" in the afternoon of Nov 23, 2015, after the shrimper "Angelika - GRE 16" capsized off the south beach of Borkum Island in the fairway. Several ships attended, among them also the lifeboat "Alfried Krupp". The ship sudenly had capsized with the nets out, and the crew of two had no time for a distress call. Two other ships remarked the accident. The deckhand of the capsized ship had managed to climb onto the keel of his ship. The master was able to escape from the wheelhouse and was also able to get onto the hull. The "MCS Maestro" saved the men after about 20 minutes and took them to Borkum, where they were medically treated. The wreck which was still drifting bottom up was secured by the "Leyhörn". Winds on Scene were 3-4 Beaufort, the water temperature 7 degrees Celsius.
