Collision off Zhoushan

Sat Dec 07 07:28:10 CET 2013 odinfm

Bulk carrier Jia Li Hai and container ship Xiumei Tianjin collided some 3.5 nautical miles south of Zhoushan, Ningbo area, East China Sea, in the morning Dec 6 13. Xiumei Tianjin struck bulk carrier portside by a bow, in hold area near superstructure. There was water ingress with a danger of sinking. Rescue vessels and tugs towed damaged bulk carrier to shallow waters, probably they’ve been towing both vessels together without uncoupling them, to prevent bigger water ingress. Jia Li Hai was reported to be stabilized in shallow waters off Tangdun. Last Jia Li Hai AIS signal was dated 0130 UTC Dec 7, with at least 3 rescue and pollution control vessels nearby, condition of the vessel unknown. Xiumei Tianjin is docked at Meishan island container terminal. Jia Li Hai is loaded with more than 60000 tons of coal. Xiumei Tianjin was en route from Zhoushan to Shanghai.
