21 people saved from grounded whale watching boat
21 people were rescued from the "Haukur" after it got stranded on Lundey island four miles from Húsavík in the Skjálfandi Bay, North Iceland, on July 3, 2014, shortly before 6 p.m. Around 50 people were involved in taking off the people from the tilting ship, including search and rescue members, firefighters, police and other boats. The owner company Norðursigling stated that the accident was caused by human error as the puffin and whale watch vessel sailed too close to shore. The vessel was refloated and arrived back in the port of Húsavík at around 11 p.m. where surveys by divers were carried out. Damage to the vessel was reportedly negligible and no leaking occurred.
