Tug sank near Vancouver

Tue Sep 29 10:03:09 CEST 2015 Timsen

On Sep 28, 2015, around 5 a.m. the "Harken 10" sank in the Strait of Georgia near Vancouver off Sandheads, not far north of the Tsawwassen ferry terminal. The tug was destined for Shelter Island Marina and Boatyard in Richmond. The crew of two was able to abandon ship into a small aluminium boat that was being towed behind the tug. Members of the Canadian Coast Guard responded to the distress call, but by the time they arrived on the scene, the crew had already managed to climb into the boat, and no assistance was needed. They arrived safely in Chemainus, on Vancouver Island, by 7 a.m. A cause of the sinking has not been determined. Harken Towing had chartered the "Harken 10" to the Jones Marine Services at the time of the sinking.
