Medevac off Saldanha

Tue Aug 25 10:04:16 CEST 2015 Timsen

On Aug 15, 2015, at 11.35 a.m. the NSRI Mykonos duty crew was activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following a request for medical assistance from the "Samurai" reporting a 39 year old Indian crew member onboard suffering a suspected heart attack. The vessel was 25 nautical miles off-shore of Saldanha and heading towards Saldanha. The lifeboat "Spirit of Freemasonry" was launched, accompanied by an SA Paramedic Services paramedic and rendezvoused with the tanker nine nautical miles off-shore. On arrival on-scene the patient was found to be stable. He was transferred onto the lifeboat and brought to the sea rescue base at Mykonos from where he has been transported to hospital by an SA Paramedic Services ambulance for further medical evaluation and treatment.
