Trianel Borkum II construction has started

Thu Sep 01 19:04:26 CEST 2011 Timsen

After three years of development, the Eemshaven-based "Goliath" pushed the first steel tubes for foundation structures of the Trianel Offshore Windplant in about 30 meters water depth 45 kilometers off Borkum into the bottom on Sep 1, 2011. The 160-meter high wind turbines of the type M 5000 Areva will stand on tripods. This 700-ton tripod foundation structures are built in Bremerhaven, each hollow with three, 100-ton steel piles. In August 2011, the first tests took place at sea using a bubble curtain. The bubble curtain is closed with a diameter of about 100 meters around the "Goliath". Then each pile is rammed with up to 3,000 strokes of the hydraulic hammer with millimeter precision. The tripods will be lifted over the piles in the coming spring. The piles have a diameter of 2.5 meters and a length of 25-30 meters. Depending on soil conditions, a longer or shorter pile is used. The ground has been previously analyzed by geologists. In the summer of 2012, the final assembly of the 40 wind turbines will start its first phase, which should be completed in winter 2012/13. Trianel Borkum West II is the largest wind plant project in the North Sea and the first purely local offshore wind park in Europe. The construction costs for Phase 1 is around 800 million €.
