Tanker operator pays compensation
After the collision of the 'Global Peak' witth the f/v 'Al Naeem' 13 nautical miles off Kochi in the early morning of Sep 22, the owner of the tanker has paid a compensation to an Indian owner of a fishing boat for the damages and welfare of the crew. The ship operators approved the compensation claim raised by the Kerala Fishing Boat Owners Association to repair the fishing.
Tanker in hit and run accident
The 'Global Peak', en route from Khor Fakkan to Port Klang, was in collision with the Indian fishing boat 'Al Naeem' off Kochi in pos. 09 53 13.2 N, 76 01 55.8 E in the Laccadive Sea on Sep 22, 2022, at 5.30 a.m. The '17 Al Mareen' had 13 crew members, including 11 North Indians and two Tamil natives. The tanker did not stop after hitting the ship at the rear, and left the scene. The fishing boat was damaged, but remained afloat. Four of the 13 crew members on board, however, were injured. They claimed the boat was well-lit, but the tanker didn’t change course. At 3.30 p.m. UTC the 'Global Peak' stopped near Nagercoil, probably on order of the Indian Coast Guard, for investigations, and remained stationary as of Sep 23.
