Trawler suffered hydraulic failure

Mon Sep 01 12:45:50 CEST 2025 Timsen

On Aug 28, 2025, at 5.40 a.m. the lifeboat 'Phillipe Kieffer - SNS 17-11' of the SNSM Ouistreham was mobilized by the CROS Jobourg to assist the 'New Look-CN 689808', which was fishing in the Courseulles area. The trawler had suffered a hydraulic failure and was unable to release its fishing gear. A solution was sought to deliver the necessary oil canisters and allow the operator to intervene on his hydraulic circuit. One hour later, the lifeboat departed and picked up the oil canisters from a wind farm's maintenance base. Once on scene, the canisters wer etransferred onto the trawler, so the crew could fix the breakdown. To secure the lifting of his fishing gear and prevent it from hitting the propeller and/or control panel,a towing connection was established to the trawlerkeep it in position. After some maneuvering, the trawler could finally sail to its home port with its own power.

Assistance for disabled trawler

Thu Mar 08 09:48:26 CET 2018 Timsen

On March 7, 2018, the CROSS Joburg coordinated an assistance operation for the "New Look" 21 nautical miles from Barfleur. At 5 p.m. the crew of three had reported that the propeller was fouled by an obstruction and the ship was no longer maneuverable. The CROSS Jobourg immediately requested the Naval Operational Center in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin to dispatch the patrol boat "Flamant" of the Navy to assist. At 6.10 p.m. it was in contact with the "New Look" and deployed his inflatable boat with divers to clear the propulsion. At 6.40 p.m. they had succeeded, and the trawler could resume its route.
