Trawl of trawler fouled chain of cargo ship

Mon Feb 17 10:59:28 CET 2014 Timsen

On Feb 16, 2014, the "Astéroïde", a trawler of 22 meters registered in Port en Bassin, lost its trawl while he was fishing off Saint Vaast la Hougue. The trawl got enangled in the anchor chain of the Cyprus-flagged cargo m/v "Onyx" which was sheltering from the storm Ulla 12 miles off Saint Vaast La Hogue on its way from Gdynia to Dakar. The skipper of the fishing vessel requested the CROSS Joburg for assistance. The lifeboat "President Jules Pinteaux" with two divers on board was sent to clear the mess. Once the trawler was safe, the cargo ship tried to raise its anchor but the trawl and ropes remained entangled. After divers cut off the trawl, the "Astéroïde" got it back in the morning of Feb 17.
