Disabled fishing vessel towed to Galway
The RNLI Aran lifeboat and Port of Galway came to the aid of the 'Ferreira Martinze' after she lost its anchor during Storm Barra on Dec 8, 2021. Sh was one of three French vessels sheltering from the storm in the North Sound, lying between the Aran island of Inis Mór and Leitir Mealláin in south Connemara. The vessel broke down and was taken in tow by one of the other fishing vessels, the 'Playa du Tuya'. Initially, it was planned to tow it to Bantry in west Cork but the Irish Coast Guard nominated Galway as a port of refuge. The RNLI Aran lifeboat launched and stood by during the tow into the port of Galway. The port took over operations from the Aran lifeboat when the tow was off Salthill, and guided both French vessels into the docks at 8.40 p.m. Report with photo and video: https://www.afloat.ie/port-news/fishing/item/52878-french-fishing-vessel-which-lost-anchor-during-storm-barra-towed-into-port-of-galway
