Disabled scalloper towed to Hartlepool
The Scarborough RNLI’s all-weather Shannon lifeboat launched ion March 31, 2020, at 3.50 a.m. after a net of the 'Alcedo - BA 77' had fouled its propeller. The ship with eight crew members on board was adrift in position 54 22 18 N, 000 00 12 W about 15 miles east of Scarborough in a choppy sea. However, the scalloper had a draught of 4.8 meters which was too much to be towed into the ports at either Scarborough or Whitby. The Humber Coastguard thereupon decided that the best course of action was to call a commercial salvage vessel to tow it to Hartleepool. The fishing vessel 'Resolution' had taken it under tow at midday, and it was safely berthed at 9 p.m. The RNLI boat meanwhile had returned to its station.
