Two rescued identified as human trafficers
Regarding the identification and rescue of 45 boat people 42 nautical mlies south of Gavdos on Jan 21 at noon by the 'Future', two of the rescued, aged 35 and 24, were identified by the others as human traffickers, who transported them for a fee from Al Tamimi, Libya to Greece. They were arrested in violation of article 25 of Law. 5038/2023 "Immigration Code", article 83 of Law 3386/2005 "Illegal entry into the country", article 306 of the Criminal Code "Report" and article 45 of the Criminal Code "Abetment". Two mobile telephone devices were seized by the Central Port Authority of Chania, which was conducting the preliminary investigation.
Cargo shp rescued 45 distressed migrants
On Jan 21, 2025, at noon, the Port Authorities of Agia Galini, Kala Limeni, Chora Sfakion and Kokkinos Pyrgos were informed by the Joint Search and Rescue Coordination Center of the Greek Coast Guard that the 'Future', en route from Vila do Conde to Damietta, had rescued 45 migrants, among them 43 men, one woman and one minor, 42 nautical miles south of Gavdos. The vessel approached the port of Paleochora, where the castaways were transferred to a patrol boat of the Greek Coast Guard and were initially transferred into the port of Paleochora and then to a temporary accommodation facility in Agia Chania. A preliminary investigation was conducted by the Central Port Authority of Chania.
