Laker runs aground near Belle Isle Michigan, refloated by two tugs

On October 21, the 222 meter long, 26365 dwt self-unloading bulk carrier Frontenac ran aground in the Detroit River near Belle Isle Michigan. The bulk carrier remained aground until the following day until it could be refloated by the assistance of two tugs. The Frontenac proceeded to an anchorage off Belle Isle for further inspection. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The cause of the grounding was not reported.

Men fell into water during lifeboat drill

A 62-year-old worker was taken to a trauma hospital after falling from the "Frontenac" into the icy water in Port Colborne just before 4 p.m. on Mar 20, 2013. Emergency responders were called to the ship that had been docked for the winter and was preparing to leave for the opening of the Welland Canal. The crew was performing a life boat drill when the man fell 29 feet into the ice and water. Ship mates from the vessel, along with Port Colborne fire department and paramedics rescued him from the water. He was taken to Welland County General Hospital for treatment and later transferred to a trauma hospital. His injuries consisted of a compound fracture to his leg and hypothermia. Meedevac on Lake Erie

An aircrew from the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Detroit medically evacuated a crewmember from athe "Frontenac" in Lake Erie about 24 nautical miles north of Fairport, Ohio, at about 1 p.m., on June 27, 2011. The aircrew involved was refueling their MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter in Erie, Pa., after participating in a search for a person in the water near Geneva State Park, Ohio. The "Frontenac" contacted Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Trenton, Ontario, explaining that the crewmember was reportedly experiencing chest pains, numbness and blurred vision. The aircrew transported to crewmember to Burke Lakefront Airport, here, to waiting EMS.
