Bridge allision at Untertürkheim

On Feb 7, 2015, around 11.30 a.m. the "Friedrich Götz" carrying a cargo of empty containers allided with a bridge at the lock Untertürkheim on the Neckar at river 186,4. The ship which was underway from Mannheim, where it had sailed on Feb 6, to Stuttgart with a cargo of containers, smashed against the bridge with the wheelhouse which was destroyed. The master suffered cut injuries and a shock and was taken to the Karl-Olga-Hospital in Stuttart after his deckhand had manoevered the vessel to a nearby container terminal in Heidelberg. The damage at the ship was estimated to be around 30.000 - 40.000 Euro. The damage at the bridge had yet to be assessed.
