Grounding off Askvoll

Fri Jan 31 19:04:12 CET 2020 Timsen

On Jan 31, 2020, at 07.55 a.m. the MRCC in southern Norway was notified that the 'Freya' had run aground southwest of the center of Askvoll with a crew of nine people on board. The ship requested assistance, and the lifeboat "Halfdan Grieg" was deployed from Måløy and arrived on scene at 10.40 a.m. The 'Freya' had got stuck on the Flatøyna reef. It was decided to wait for the rising tide for refloating the vessel. A work boat was used to push to keep the stern away from the islet. After the expedition ship was pulled into deeper water, it headed to Florø with own engine and safely berthed at 1 p.m. at the cargo terminal of the port. The maritime authorities launched an investigatoin. It was up to the Norwegian and Swedish authorities whether a bottom inspection of the ship had to be carried out. The ship left the port again on Feb 2 at 9.10 a.m., headed to Skagen. Norwegian report with photo: https://www.bt.no/nyheter/lokalt/i/9vVAXq/baat-gikk-paa-grunn-utenfor-askvoll
