Frederik towed to Kiel
On March 29, At 7:00 a.m., the tugs 'Stein' and 'OSK Rendsburg', after unsuccessful repair attempts of the engine, took the disabled 'Frederik' on tow and pulled it to Kiel's East Shore within eight hours. It was safely berthed at around 3 p.m., and the damage was to be further investigated at the berth. If repairs failed, the cargo could have to be transferred onto another container ship. The 'Frederik' finally left the port of Kielafter successful repairs on April 5 with an ETA at Klaipeda as of April 6. Container ship got stuck in embankment of Kiel Canal
On March 27, 2025, at 10.30 p.m. the 'Frederik' suffered an engine failure due to a problem with the ship's electronic during the eastbound transit of the Kiel Canal en route from Hamburg to Klaipeda. It veered off course and blocked the waterway short before the switch Fischerhütte. The canal was barred for shipping in this area for a frew hours. The tugs 'Fairplay 54' (IMO: 9021112) and 'Fairplay-57' (IMO: 9036246) were deployed from Brunsbüttel to assist the ship and removed it from the waterway. On March 28 at 10 a.m. UTC it was held stationary in pos. 54° 09' N 009° 21' E, while the crew of the container ship tried to fix the damage on the night of March 28. After these attempts failed, the ship was waiting for the tugs 'OSK Rendsburg' (IMO: 9755567) and 'Stein' (IMO: 9241243) in order to take it in tow to Kiel for further investigations into the damage and permanent repairs.
Suction of speed exceeding vessel caused barge to go adrift
On May 15, 2019, at 06.35 a.m. the "Aldebaran", 1775 ts (EU-No.: 04602770), which was berthed at the quay of the storage areal Dhyrrsenmoor on the Kiel Canal broke lose from its moorings because the "Frederik" which was transiting the Kiel Canal eastbound from Hamburg to Gdynia with an ETA as of May 16, passed it with too much speed. All mooring ropes of the "Aldebaran" broke due to the suction and swell caused by the "Frederik". The ship could be moored again. The water police Brunsbüttel launched an investigation.
