Fire brigade alerted to tanker on New Merwede
On the morning of Feb 16, 2025, the emergency services were urgently called to a fire on the ''Florida', which was sailing on the New-Merwede between Papendrecht and Dordrecht near the N3 bridge. Several fire engines, the fire brigade's fire boat, the KNRM, and Rijkswaterstaat came to the Coal Port on the Kerkeplaat in Dordrecht. There appeared to be no fire on board the tanker, but the engine had blown up, causing some smoke development. Another ship, loaded with containers, secured the tanker alongside. Firefighters from the fire boat boarded the tanker to check whether everything was safe. After the inspection, the two inland vessels entered the Coal Port and secured the tanker to the poles there. The tanker was not loaded and no one was injured. An extensive investigation was carried out on the vessel. However, no fire was found. The fire brigade eventually transferred the incident to Rijkswaterstaat for further handling.
