Grounding on the Rhine

In the morning of March 26, 2020, the 'Florian Burmester', 1575 ts (ENI: 06105221), ran aground on a sand bar on the Rhine between Erpel and Remagen while enroute from Dusiburg to Mannheim with a cargo of 1.298 tons diesel fuel. The water police in Koblenz and Andernach attended the ship which had anchored in the area the previous evening. After the anchor dragged, the ship went adtift until it got stuck on the shallow. An initial attempt to refloat the barge with a tug in the morning failed. Only after a pusher tug with more power arrived, the 'Florian Burmester' could be pulled off in the afternoon. The Rhine was barred for passing ship traffic during the salvage work. At 2 p.m. the tanker proeeded to Koblenz for inspections. No leaks and no pollution reported.
