Engine malfunction in Piraeus

Wed Jan 22 21:26:36 CET 2025 Timsen

On the morning of Jan 22, 2025, the Central Port Authority of Piraeus was informed by the Captain of the 'Fast Ferries Andrs' about a malfunction of the port side main engine, while the ship was moored in the port of Piraeus on a scheduled route from the port of Piraeus to the ports of Syros, Tinos and Mykonos, with 121 passengers on board. The passengers were transported to their destination by the care of the company. The Port Authority banned the ferry from sailing until the presentation of a certificate of class maintenance from the classification society that monitors it.

Anchors of ferries got entangled in storm

Mon Sep 11 10:00:40 CEST 2023 Timsen

The anchors of the 'Fast Ferries Andros', with 743 passengers on board, the 'Ekaterini P.' (IMO: 9000443) and the 'Super Ferry' (IMO: 9110016) got entangled during the departure of the ferries from Rafina on Sep 9, 2023. A collision was avoided between all involved vessels at the last minute. The incident occurred due to bad weather conditions prevailing in the area. The 'Super Ferry' and "Ekaterini" cut their anchors and managed to disengage from the scene. The "Fast Ferry Andros", however, found itself stranded, being unable to start the engine in order to moor at the wharf as there was a risk that the chain would become entangled in the propeller and breaking the engine shaft. Three tugs arrived in Rafina between 2.20 p.m. and 4 p.m., while divers also had to attempt it before the "Fast Ferry Andros" finally managed to dock at the port of Rafina late on Sep 9. The 'Super Ferry' lost its port anchor, and the Master of the vessel informed the Port Authority of Tinos, which initially prohibited the sailing of the ferry until a class maintenance certificate permitting its continued sailing was issued by the ship's surveyor. Following the presentation of the certificate, the vessel was allowed to depart Tinos on its scheduled service. Engine damage off Mykonos

Mon Aug 21 09:42:33 CEST 2023 Timsen

On Aug 20, 2023, at noon the Port Authority of Mykonos was informed about a mechanical damage of the starboard side main engine of the 'fast Ferries Andros'. It had suffered malfunction in the exhaust gas compressor during its scheduled service from the port of Paros to the ports of Tinos, Andros and Rafina, with 192 passengers on board. The ship sailed safely to the port of Mykonos, where the passengers were disembarked. The Port Authority of Mykonos banned the ship from sailing until the repair of the damage and the presentation of a certificate of maintenance of class by the monitoring classification society. The passengers were forwarded to their destination on other ships, under the care of ship-owning company.
