The RNLI Peterhead lifeboat crew launched on Dec 8, 2011 at 3 p.m. during Scotland’s worst storms for decades to carry out a medical evacuation of an injured sailor aboard the "Far Strider". The original intention was to carry out the transfer from the offshore supply vessel just off Peterhead breakwater, but conditions with heavy swell and high winds proved so bad that the transfer had to be completed within the Peterhead breakwater area. The male casualty, who had an eye injury, was successfully transferred to the RNLI Peterhead Tamar lifeboat at approximately 4.45 p.m. The lifeboat stood down and arrived safely back at its berth in Peterhead at approximately 5 p.m., and the casualty was taken to hospital.
